The Center for Clinical and Translation Science and Training (CCTST) was established by David Stern, MD, Dean of the College of Medicine, in October 2005. The CCTST is co-directed by James Heubi, MD, Professor of Pediatrics and Associate Dean for Clinical and Translational Research, and Joel Tsevat, MD, MPH, Professor of Medicine and Associate Dean for Clinical and Translational Research, with support from the program directors and staff. Centrally located on the 10th floor of the new CCHMC "S" Building, the CCTST serves the entire UC Academic Health Center by:

  • Providing consultation to investigators on research design and implementation through Research Central
  • Providing support for young investigators (faculty and fellows) in clinical and translational research through help in preparing career development awards (e.g., K01, K22, K23)
  • Assisting young faculty in careers in clinical and translational research
  • Assisting faculty in preparing large multidisciplinary, multi-school, and multi-institutional grants
  • Helping individual divisions and departments to write T32 and similar training grants
  • Spearheading efforts to write institutional training grants
  • Coordinating clinical and translational research
  • Coordinating the MS in Clinical and Translational Research Training Program.

The CCTST also coordinates the KL2 Research Scholars mentored career development award program for highly qualified MD, PhD, or PharmD junior faculty pursuing careers in clinical and translational research.

The CCTST spearheaded the Academic Health Center’s application for a Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA) which was funded in April 2009. The CTSA is an NIH Roadmap initiative to create an academic home for clinical and translational research at academic health centers across the country.  The CTSA focus areas include:  1. Pilot and collaborative translational and clinical studies, 2. Biomedical informatics, 3. Research design, epidemiology, biostatistics, and clinical research ethics, 4. Regulatory knowledge and support, 5. Participant and clinical interactions resources, 6. Community engagement and research, 7. Research education, training and career development, 8.  Enabling technologies to support clinical/translational research, and 9. Molecular and cell therapy matrix program and translational cores.  Other important resources available from the CCTST include:

  • Examples of successful K- and T-award applications (coming soon to the Website - available now in person)
  • A repository of information essential to completing such applications, including information for tables for T32 applications, biosketches, etc. (coming soon to the Website - available now in person)
  • Access to CCHMC Extranet for University of Cincinnati researchers, faculty and staff.
