The Clinical Translational Research Center (CTRC), formerly the General Clinical Research Center (GCRC), provides the resources to perform high quality, patient- oriented research across the Academic Health Center (AHC) and the community. Funded by the NIH Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA) and based at CCHMC, the CTRC is led by CCTST co-director James Heubi, MD , associate dean for clinical and translational research. The CTRC is staffed by a patient services director, a full complement of nurses, clinical department technicians, a research dietitian, core laboratory technicians, an administrative manager, research coordinators, and a unit service coordinator. The CTRC currently offers: - A 12 bed inpatient/12 room outpatient, 11,000 sq. ft. unit on the CCHMC main campus, including 4 beds for sleep research, supporting research in children and adults.
- The 36 bed inpatient/18 room outpatient, 53,500 sq. ft. Cincinnati Center for Clinical Research on the CCHMC Oak campus (6 blocks from the main campus), supporting research in children and adults
- A 3,000 sq. ft. satellite location at the Cincinnati VA Medical Center, including 2 inpatient beds with cardiac monitoring capabilities, 4 outpatient rooms and 3 procedure rooms
- Core services including:
o biochemistry o body composition (DXA, dual energy X-ray absorptiometry) o behavioral science o bionutrition
Planned additional services include: - "scatter bed” support and broader outpatient support beyond the CTRC
- support for investigators utilizing University and Holmes Hospitals, UC Barrett Cancer Center, Drake Center rehabilitative hospital, and community hospitals
During FY 2009, CTRC resources were used by investigators engaged in 69 active protocols, utilizing 38 bed-days for inpatient studies and 4,664 outpatient visits, resulting in publication of 20 journal articles.
