CCTST

The Research Education, Training and Career Development program of the CCTST is designed to enhance the clinical research skills, mentorship, and productivity of current Academic Health Center (AHC) clinical and translational investigators while developing new, and expanding existing, pipelines of future clinical and translational researchers.  In addition, the program strives to enhance community awareness, interest, understanding, and involvement in clinical and translational research, and to advance the science of its teaching.  The program is led by Joel Tsevat, MD, MPH , co-director of the CCTST and associate dean for clinical and translational research.

Current and future offerings include:

• KL2 Research Scholars mentored career development award program 
• MS in Clinical and Translational Research program (45 credit hours + thesis)
• Existing tracks in Clinical Epidemiology/Clinical Effectiveness, Molecular Epidemiology, Clinical Trials, and Translational Research
• Planned track in Clinical Research Informatics

• Online educational modules in clinical and translational research, developed by the General Clinical Research Center (GCRC) 
• K23 preparation program for fellows and junior faculty (timeline)

• Expansion of training programs for clinical research nurses and coordinators across the AHC, based on the CCHMC Developing a Curriculum (DACUM) model
  
• Summer internship program for PharmDs wishing to train as PhD pharmacist-scientists
  
• Expansion of CCHMC summer research programs for high school and college students to include clinical and translational research opportunities across the AHC (see current UC opportunities)
  
• Additional slots for clinical and translational research in the existing T35 program (Medical Student Summer Research Program)
  
• Structured training in clinical and translational research for medical residents in all specialties, based on the UC Department of Emergency Medicine model
  
• New Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program (Fall 2009)
  
• Coordination of research education efforts in community-based participatory and collaborative research with the Community Engagement program
  
• Development of medical education offerings for news media, and a course in medical and scientific writing for UC journalism students
