Recognizing that individuals conducting research at multiple institutions in the Greater Cincinnati area had overlapping training requirements, CCHMC began the CITI Synchronization Initiative to coordinate CITI human research subject protection training with other area institutions. What resulted was a standardized, yet individually-customized, solution to coordinate CITI training through the Greater Cincinnati Academic and Regional Health Centers (GCARHC). Member entities of the GCARHC currently include: CCHMC, UC, Cincinnati Veterans Affairs Medical Center, University Hospital, Jewish Hospital, and The Christ Hospital. The new CITI training automatically assigns a core group of modules when one registers or affiliates with a GCARHC institution. A series of research-related questions add additional modules to the training curriculum based on the individual’s research practices. The new CITI training is currently available to researchers and key personnel who conduct research involving human subjects. All CCHMC researchers/key personnel and community physicians conducting research coordinated by a member of the Academic Health Center (CCHMC, UC, or the Cincinnati VAMC) are instructed to access CITI, create an affiliation with the Greater Cincinnati Academic and Regional Health Centers and demonstrate their knowledge through completion of the new training by December 1, 2009.
